Festival at Kottankulangara Bhagavathy Temple

Kettu Kazcha: About 20 plus processions from various places that starts in the afternoon, with a Kettu Kuthira (edifice of horses) mounted on a huge trolley pulled by devotees, reaches the temple by evening (5pm) and take it to the nearby paddy field. It again visits the temple during night (9.30pm). Other processions (about 15) with one elephant each will also visit the temple in the evening.  Chamaya vilakku starts by evening (3pm) and will continue till next morning. Men disguised as women, offer to carry oil lamps for the Goddess. Thousands of men will gather here to offer this special ritual. There will be a late night procession (3am-5am) with Thalappoli by these men, supported by Melam, Nadaswaram etc. and they reaches for Aarattu. The similar functions are repeated on the next day too. Another offering in this temple is Urul Nercha, for which the devotees encircle the temple by rolling on the ground supported by holy chanting. Usually over 50 devotees do Urul Nercha during the morning time (6am-8am) on each day.
