Aarattu : Ritualistic holy bath, (of the deity/idol).
Ayyappan Pattu : Folk songs about Lord Ayyappan. Lord Ayyappan is the incarnation of Lord Sasthavu. Also called Sastham pattu.
Ayyappan Vilakku : Also called 'Desa Vilakku'. It is a 24 hour long ritual performance to propitiate the God, Lord Ayyappan, the bachelor God who live in the forest and his subordinate deities Malikappurathamma (the goddess), Vavar (an enemy who later become friend ) etc. Temporary temples are crafted using stem of plantain and decorated with tender leaves of the coconut tree and flowers. The performers then appear as oracles and do performances. Ezhunnallippu, Kanalattam, Ayyappanpattu/Udukkupattu, Thiri uzhichil, Vettum Thadavum etc. are part of the ritual.
